the “bliss” of thyroid disease

Living with an autoimmune disease is no fun for anyone – or for our pets.
Oscar, had a low metabolism and it was his thyroid gland that had lost 70-75% of its function. This meant that he had to take medicine for the thyroid gland to function. He also had to have special food – namely homemade, as it had to be as clean as possible. It was especially Oscar’s stomach/intestinal system and his ears that needed a lot of care.

The disease is also with Darwin, who has also lost the same percentage as Oscar. Darwin is also given medicine for it, divided into 2 times a day.
In comparison with Oscar – Darwin have the most trouble. His paws, his fur, his ears and his eyes are what are affected. As soon as he gets some artificial food/treats, the effect is often that after a few days, a reaction can occur. Then he scratches, bites his paws, gets fungal symptoms between his toes, his ears get bad, and his eyes get inflamed. It can turn out to be all over the place.
On Friday (1/11) we had to go to the vet urgently – as he had a bad inflammation of the foreskin on his penis. The area was severely swollen and inflamed and he was in pain.
The vet gave him a syringe with antibiotics and anti-itch medication – and then he had to take antibiotics for a week. We are now, at the time of writing, working on this treatment.
Darwin has gotten better again, now 3 days into the process and his penis area looks nicer. He is on antibiotics until Friday. 8/11.

That’s why I want to strike again that this type of disease has become a lifestyle disease in our dogs and probably also cats. I must also say that something like this is hereditary, but that it can skip generations, only to become active again.
Another VERY big part is – the industrial feed people feed their pets. It is evil itself, and in the long run, it can cause this type of disease, it can cause diabetes, it can cause arthritis – yes, the list is long.
AGAIN, I want to raise that you choose to give your pets a good home-made feed – alternative raw feed – or a wet feed of good quality, without all possible E numbers and other artificial additives. Wet food is by far the best thing to feed your animals, and it is also what your pet would choose if given the choice.
If I get a dog again, it is clear from the start that it must have home-cooked food, and if I could do it over, NONE of my beagles would ever have had dry food.
For the past 6+ years I have been feeding all my beagles wet food. Now Charlie is gone and so is Oscar – but I still have Darwin who gets that type of food. And he thrives on it, eats, is at a comfortable weight and my vet has nothing to put his finger on in that direction. Charlie was 13.5 years old, Oscar was 15 years old – and Darwin is now 14.5 years old – so yes, dogs CAN live on REAL food.
