Darwins pote 12/4-23 – Darwins paw

In english

It ended with anesthesia over at the vet – because the damage was worse than we thought. I myself had a strong feeling that it was not good – that was also why I pushed for Darwin to come to the vet.

The vet removed the rest of the broken claw. He was afraid that the bone was broken – but fortunately it turned out that it was not. The bone was sticking out – so it has been a violent tear  Darwin suffered on Sunday.

The vet got the bone in place and subsequently sewed the skin together over the bone so that it was not damaged. When it is opened in that way, there is a risk of inflammation in the bone itself – which would be a disaster.

Darwin was given some painkillers and antibiotics in a syringe – and then he must be kept at rest for the next 5-6 days – so that he can rest and heal.

Darwin needs something on his paw when he’s outdoors – so today I’m getting him some balloon shoes that he can wear outside. At night, he must still wear a stocking. During the day inside, he does not need the stocking as we then have to keep an eye on him. It is a choice I have made for his comfort – then I/we will rub him into the cothivet spray so that he leaves the paw alone as much as possible.

for the next few days, Darwin is on painkillers and antibiotics
